Admissions
Pupils coming to us from Early Years settings will join our Early Transitions department.
Your child will work with our staff to develop the foundations of learning. During this period, staff will be able to assess your child’s needs fully with the support of a wider multi-disciplinary team so that your child can start their journey on the right Pathway usually at the start of Year 3.
If your child joins us after Year 3, we will work with you and other professionals to decide which Pathway is the most appropriate before admission.
We appreciate moving to a new school can be daunting. We work with you and your child to make the transition as seamless as possible.
If you would like to arrange a visit to our school, please call 01582 866972 or email school@chiltern.beds.sch.uk
Admissions to special schools are managed by the Central Bedfordshire Council SEND Team, who manage admissions centrally (Telephone: 0300 300 8356)
We look forward to welcoming you to the Chiltern School family, where we dare to be different!
Arrangements for the admission of pupils with disabilities
The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 defines a disabled person as one who has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on a persons’ ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities. Most children with Special Needs will not be disabled within the meaning of the Act.
The admission of pupils with disabilities is considered in the first instance in the same way as non-disabled pupils. Further considerations are made in the light of need and accessibility. It is school policy to accommodate pupils with disabilities should parents wish their child to attend the school. Steps are taken to prevent any pupils being treated less favourably than other pupils. In practice we ensure that classroom and extra-curricular activities encourage the participation of all pupils, including those categorised as having Special Educational Needs. Staff organise human and physical resources within the school to increase access to learning and participation by all pupils. The School strives to ensure that whatever the abilities and needs of members of the school community, everyone is equally valued and treats one another with respect under the Equality Act 2010.
