EfL puts parents at the heart of their child’s learning

Partnership between home and school is meaningful through the school’s active use of the ‘Evidence for Learning’ system. Evidence for Learning Family App provides a secure portal for class teams to share observations of learning, including videos and images, with each family through the EfL learning journal. It allows families to provide observations of learning at home to the class team, so that our planning and assessment connect school and home. Every family has a personal login, access to training, and support.

Using the App

Below, you will find step-by-step instructions for signing up for the Evidence for Learning (EFL) Family App, as well as guidance on how to upload evidence from home:

The EfL Family App is now available in both iOS and Android app stores (please see links below).

Engagement Model (EM) at The Chiltern School

At The Chiltern School, we have adapted the Engagement Model to meet the needs of our pupils, providing a meaningful assessment framework for those working below the standard of national curriculum assessments and not engaged in subject-specific study. This model, which replaced P Scales 1 to 4, focuses on five key areas of engagement: exploration, realisation, anticipation, persistence, and initiation. These areas enable teachers to assess how pupils interact with and respond to the school’s curriculum, emphasising the development of new skills, knowledge, and concepts. By concentrating on engagement rather than traditional task-based achievements, the model allows us to assess progress in a way that is deeply personalised and reflective of each pupil’s unique abilities and needs.

The Engagement Model is used as both an assessment tool and an observational framework, complementing our existing assessment systems. It ensures teaching and learning strategies are finely tuned to support each pupil’s journey toward achieving their EHCP outcomes. Evidence of progress is captured through Personal Learning Plans (PLPs) and the Evidence for Learning App, enabling staff to document and review learning from the pupil’s perspective. This approach ensures our pupils are actively engaged in our bespoke curriculum and are making meaningful progress toward their full potential.

Pupils’ development, well-being and happiness are at the centre of everything that happens at the school.
