Aspire. Endeavour. Achieve.
The Chiltern School is based on two separate sites. Our primary site (3-11 years) is in Beech Road, Dunstable, LU6 3LY.
Phone number – 01582 667106.
Our primary site caters for pupils aged 3 years through to 11 years (Year 6).
Classes are arranged by age and reflect the social, communication and physical needs of pupils. Currently the largest class has 10 pupils but the average class size is 7 pupils. Classes are taught by teachers who are supported by Learning Support Assistants. The current staff to pupil ratio is above 1:2, ensuring a high level of individual staff pupil interaction and support.
The school day on our primary site begins at 9.20 am and ends at 3.20 pm. Pupils have one hour lunch break.
In our Early Years Department pupils attend part time sessions to prepare them for full time. The part time sessions run – morning 09.20 – 12.20 am and afternoon 12.20 – 3.20 pm.
Some parents bring their child to school, but most travel to and from school using the LA school transport.
At The Chiltern School we have an Early Years Department for pupils from 3 years of age, catering for pupils with profound, multiple and severe learning difficulties and autistic spectrum conditions. Pupils stay in this department to the end of Reception Year when they move to the main school. We follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum.
Pupils are encouraged to develop their ICT skills through the use of the interactive plasma screen, computers, IPads and suitable switches and learning programs.
The Early Years Department has 3 classrooms. There is an undercover outside play area and also the pupils have their own playground area and equipment fenced off from the main school playground.
All pupils are expected to wear school uniform. The uniform on the primary site is as follows:
Jade Green sweatshirts/cardigans with logo can be purchased from the school office at a reasonable price.
